A unique human-animal experience: discovering slowness to the rhythm of the llamas on the Hemma Pilgrimage Trail with pilgrim guide Rudi Eggarter between Diex and the St. Oswald pilgrims’ hostel.
Peaceful, gently humming llamas are our companions along the way. They carry our luggage. Their curious yet reserved nature quickly creates a sense of connection and sets a leisurely rhythm. The presence of the animals and the slow, steady walking make us perceive the landscape, the scent and the beauty of nature much more intensely. The way is the goal. Luggage is transported by the llamas: the llamas carry our luggage, which is stowed in panniers on site (bags are provided, max. 8 kg per person). Two people “share” one llama. Our destination is the lovingly renovated pilgrims’ hostel at the top of St. Oswald with a magnificent view over the vast landscape. This is also where we prepare a rustic dinner and tasty breakfast together with enthusiastic amateur chef Rudi Eggarter. Slowing down is the theme. Silence can be felt in the rustling of the leaves and in the gentle connection with untouched nature. The more hectic the human being, the more stubborn the llama. The sensitive animals help us to walk slowly. Walking with llamas helps us to slow down and forget the hectic pace of life. Remove “I have to” from your vocabulary! We walk for two days, we have enough time. New perspectives and new insights need time to mature.
