Autumn is probably the most beautiful time for extensive hiking in Central Carinthia. Pleasant temperatures, the last warming rays of sunshine, nature showing its colorful side, clear air and almost limitless views are the perfect companions for an unforgettable hiking tour to the sunny and powerful places of Central Carinthia. Here you can literally hear the leaves rustling under your feet. Between gentle alpine pastures, easy-to-reach peaks, scenic circular hiking trails and wonderful places to stop for refreshments, the pleasurable discovery begins.
Hiking in Central Carinthia – our TOP hiking tips in fall
- Herbal hiking trail Gurk – Pisweg: From the cathedral square in Gurk you hike past the water oasis on the Gurk river to Pisweg.
Length of the tour: 8.8 km (there and back)
- On the Saualpen ridge: From the Druckerhütte at the foot of the Saualpe you hike over the Speikkogel to the Kleiner Sauofen and then the Großer Sauofen. Fantastic views included.

- Kitzelkapelle circular hiking trail: From Steuerberg you hike to the Kitzelkapelle chapel and return to the starting point via Wachsenberg and Wiggis. The highlight of the hike is the sunny resting place “Like on cloud nine”.

- Otwinusweg in St. Georgen am LängseeStarting from St. Georgen am Längsee Abbey, you hike around the Otwinuskogel. A fantastic view opens up as far as Hochosterwitz Castle.

- Artists’ Trail Klein St. Paul: Starting from the Museum of Spring Culture, you come to the Klinzerhof and the Görtschitz nature window.
Length of the tour: 4 km (there and back)
- Metnitz circular hiking trailBeautiful hike via Vellach, Klein-Jauernegger and St. Wolfgang to Grades. From Grades Castle, the route leads back to Metnitz via Klachl.
