The way to the heart is through the stomach
Candlelight, a relaxed atmosphere, lovingly prepared food and togetherness with stimulating conversation are the ingredients for a romantic candlelight dinner. There are a number of restaurants in Central Carinthia that are perfect for a “date night”. We provide 7 first-class addresses for romantics and the perfect dinner for two.
Arts and crafts inn, Liebenfels
The heated oven of the former forester’s lodge in Radelsdorf near Liebenfels, where Johannes and Angelika Magnet put together their all-round feel-good package for guests, welcomes you with a cozy warmth. Johannes cooks for the bishop during the day and also treats less clerical dignitaries to his creations in the evening. His cuisine ranges from classic to refined, and those who can’t decide can be delighted with the surprise menu. Tip: The freshness of the fish is celebrated in the Wirtshaus Kunsthandwerk. The passionate chef only fishes for his trout from the fresh spring water right next to the restaurant once the order has been placed. Be sure to try it out!
Restaurant Leiten, Karnburg
Carinthia can also offer food with a view of vineyards. Here in Central Carinthia in particular, first-class cuisine in the midst of wine-growing areas is playing an increasingly important role. At the foot of the Ulrichsberg, landlord and winegrower Georg Lexer produces excellent wines together, which can be tasted in combination with fine food directly in the impressive wooden house. Produce from their own herb and vegetable garden, meat from the free-range Duroc and Mangalitza pigs that spend their summers in the vines and seasonal specialties are deliciously prepared in the Leiten restaurant. Wine and pork is the motto here – in its best possible form!

Restaurant Glantalerhof, Liebenfels
The Glantalerhof restaurant has been run by Helmut and Roswitha Bang as a family-run inn since 2007. Wonderfully served culinary delicacies with exquisite, regional ingredients and seasonal delicacies are the trademark of this popular restaurant. Multi-course menus by candlelight are the absolute specialty of the dedicated team. Whether it’s beef tartare from Carinthian Alpine oxen, beef fillet tips with whisky and pepper cream sauce or a fried ice cream parfait: there are no limits to the imagination.
Landgasthof Neugebauer, Lölling
The Löllinger Graben is a special place and always worth a culinary excursion. The Löllinger people themselves are proud of their origins and exiled Löllingers regularly meet up at Landgasthof Neugebauer to exchange ideas – including at Landgashof Neugebauer. The warm-hearted family business with a long tradition serves down-to-earth cuisine with an Asian touch. The young hosts Stefanie Krings and Lothar Krings-Neugebauer will look after you with typical warmth and the necessary sensitivity. Tip: Be sure to try the Carinthian sushi (to be ordered in advance).

Liegl am Hiegl, St. Peter near Taggenbrunn
For the Liegl-Warmuth family, the name says it all. In the small village of St. Peter, situated on a hill not far from the Längsee lake, guests experience country idyll in its purest form. The Liegl am Hiegl is now in its fourth generation of cooking and refining. Special emphasis is placed on products from their own farm. Tip: Be sure to choose a sweet dessert to round off your dinner. Chef Elisabeth is a passionate wedding cake baker and attaches great importance to patisserie. This is also reflected in the temptations for sweet tooths.

Gasthof zum Dorfschmied, Klein St. Paul
The rural Görtschitztal valley finds one of its culinary hotspots in the Gasthof zum Dorfschmied. The Müller family’s business is practically the prototype of a country inn. Here, Josef Müller cooks up the best food from his own organic farm to create both traditional and innovative delicacies on the plate. The Dorfschmied is the ideal location for an enjoyable time for two. Tip: Don’t miss the chance to try the bacon. It’s not just the way it is presented that makes it unique.

Summit house Magdalensberg
When talking about the highlights of the Central Carinthia region, the Magdalensberg is a must. The Gipfelhaus is not only a place of pilgrimage for fog-ridden capital city dwellers, but also highly recommended in culinary terms. For the Skorianz family from Magdalensberg, quality and taste come first. They use many products from their own farm. The newly extended Gipelhaus also nestles perfectly into the landscape and seems to become one with the hilly greenery of the historic mountain. Tip: The best thing to do after dinner is to stay overnight and enjoy the wellness facilities and the view.
