Take the inexpensive hiking bus to Flattnitz, Saualpe or Auerlingsee!
The rucksack is packed, the hiking boots are on and the weather is perfect for a hiking tour. The gentle elevations in Central Carinthia offer optimal hiking fun for almost everyone!
Take advantage of this convenient option and travel to popular hiking areas in Central Carinthia on the hiking bus for just € 8.00 per person/ride (children up to 6 years free). Wörthersee PLUS Card holders even pay just € 5.00 per trip.
The hiking bus runs between June and September 2024 on alternating dates across Central Carinthia. Simply register by 10:00 a.m. the day before at info@mittelkaernten.at and arrive relaxed for your hiking tour!
Every Wednesday from June 5 to September 25: Flattnitz
- Departure: 8:00 am at the train station in St. Veit/Glan.
- Stops on the outward journey: St. Veit/Glan railroad station, Längsee lido, Treibach-Althofen railroad station, Friesach railroad station; further stops possible
- Return journey: 15:00 at Alpengasthof Isopp
Optional: Guided tour “The Flattnitz peaks in the Hirnkopf”
Hiking experience for experienced hikers in idyllic natural surroundings. The circular hiking trail leads past the former lime kiln and the “Fürstenhütte” and is accompanied by the rushing of the Rapitzbach stream. It then continues uphill to the Hirnkopf at 1,840m. The way back is via the Jagersteig trail. The difference in altitude is approx. 600m, the walking time approx. 5 hours.

- Departure: 8:00 am train station in St. Veit/Glan
- Stops on the outward journey: St. Veit/Glan railroad station, Längsee lido, Treibach-Althofen railroad station, Gasthof Moser Guttaring, destination: Breitofner Hütte (also the Weißberger Hütte on request)
- Return journey:
14:30 Steiner Hütte (in even calendar weeks; )
or 16:30 Wolfsberger Hütte (in odd calendar weeks)
Optional: Guided tour Circular hike on the Saualpe
Hike the Saualm ridge from hut to hut. From the start at the Breitofnerhütte, high above Klein St. Paul, the tour leads over the summits of Gertrusk, Ladinger Spitz and Grosser Sauofen to the Wolfsberger Hütte and Steinerhütte. Always included: unique panoramic views from the “panoramic balcony of Carinthia” and delicious hut delicacies.
NEW in summer 2024: Hiking bus to Lake Auerlingsee – every Thursday from July 11 to September 5
- Departure: 8:00 am train station in St. Veit/Glan
- Stops on the outward journey: St. Veit/Glan railroad station, Längsee lido, Treibach-Althofen railroad station, Friesach railroad station
- Return journey: 16:00 Grebenzenlift valley station (costs for the Grebenzenbergbahn not included).
Optional: Guided tour “Summit tour from Lake Auerlingsee to the Grebenzen“
The moderately difficult Aspect hike starts at the idyllic Auerlingsee lake (1,318) and leads along the Carinthian border hiking trail up to the 1 & 2 Grebenzenhöhe (1,874). From there, the tour takes us down to the serviced hut, where we board the gondola.
